Eventually, Hiro started learning more about shady things happening at Sycorax, so he constantly sought Karmi for help and started working together more often, although Karmi initially believed this was only out of jealousy. Yet Karmi flaunted this and every other advantage she had to Hiro, who in response tried to one-up her in any way possible. Upon meeting " Liv Amara", Karmi formed her first genuine friendship with her as they shared a love for bio-tech, to the point she gave Karmi an internship at Sycorax and trusted her more than any other of her workers. This made her become nicer to people in general, as she now had a fanbase that would ask her for autographs and pictures. Her stories gained enough popularity for them to eventually become an animated webtoon with millions of views. Also, despite calling Hiro "ignorant of science" at some point, Karmi was genuinely impressed by his robotics skills, which ultimately motivated her to learn some programming herself.ĭue to Karmi's obsession with Big Hero 6, she started writing fan-fiction stories about the hero team in which she was a character as well, giving each member a nickname of her own and writing herself as the girlfriend of Captain Cutie (Hiro).
On the other hand, Hiro also constantly crossed paths with Karmi as his alter-ego, which showed a completely different side of her than the one Hiro already knew due to her acting excited and happy to see him.
At first, this worried Hiro, who believed that Karmi was secretly in love with him and knew his secret identity, although later he realized that she was ignorant of the truth and did not know that the superhero was him. With Hiro, she tended to be particularly rude to him and enjoyed seeing him in embarrassing situations, but ironically, she also fell in love with Hiro's superhero identity. Karmi also has an obsessive relationship with the things she likes: with her virus samples, she used to react negatively if they were hurt or destroyed. On the outside, she appeared to be unfriendly with most people, but deep down, Karmi showed to be compassionate and kind to others, especially those in need.
Karmi's personality has changed over time due to the experiences and situations she has found herself in: Initially she was mostly introverted, studious but also annoying at times, and took great pride in attending college at a young age. Karmi also has intense admiration for Hiro, since he never gives up and puts everyone first, just like Tadashi. Granville recognized the similarities between both teens and saw the opportunity to try getting Hiro to befriend Karmi-even though neither of them were interested and had a rough start as rivals instead which grew into a beautiful friendship and blossomed into love, since they both fully trust each other and support each other. At the same time, 14-year-old Hiro Hamada joined SFIT and took Karmi's place as the youngest student in the school. After the events of Big Hero 6 took place, the former dean of SFIT Robert Callaghan was arrested and replaced with Professor Granville, who quickly noticed Karmi's lack of social skills. Karmi is a bio-tech student who was admitted at the prestigious San Fransokyo Institute of Technology around the age of 16 due to her advanced skills, making her the youngest enrollee at the time-though she didn't have any friends and had issues socializing because of it.
